WMNS Euroleague Champs 2024

Fenerbahce Alagoz Holding crowned back-to-back EuroLeague Women champions

It's that time of year again. The basketball world goes into a frenzy as the destiny of the 2023/24 season hangs in the balance - will the weeks and months of hard work that have been invested in this season of basketball provide an outcome that makes it a year to remember, or a year to forget? For the Euroleague women, the teams set out on their quest for a title back at the season tip-off in October 2023, and the journey would not be easy.

As usual, the playoff competition did not disappoint, with the usual suspects having battled out for position since Feb, and whittling down to its Final 4 this month. The competition would be a historic one for Turkish rivals Fenerbahce Alagoz Holding and Cukurova Basketbol Mersin who were both fighting for a chance to play for dynasty status and faced off in the semi-finals.

The game was gritty and would have been a storybook finals matchup. In the end, though, it would be France's powerhouse Villeneuve d'Ascq LM who would fight off Czech Republic's ZVVZ USK Praha for a place in the final to face off against the eventual tournament champs, Fenerbahce Alagoz Holding. Fener would be dominant in Sunday's final against VDA, pulling away in the 3rd quarter and leading by as many as 33 points. Sharp-shooter Kayla McBride (who also plays for the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx) would claim the competition's MVP award and the team would proudly lift the silverware to claim their back-to-back Euroleague title.

Fenerbahce Alagoz Holding made history by being the first Turkish team to win the Euroleague title twice, I have a feeling they're not done, either. Next season I'll be watching with bated breath, anticipating the opportunity to witness a 3-peat and establishing a dynasty in Turkish basketball. If anyone can do it, Fener can.

This win means everything to me and my team. We've worked so hard for this moment, and to come out on top against such tough competition is truly special."
